Several actions can corrupt memory cards. To prevent corruption, never:

  1. Turn off a camera before a picture is completely saved to the memory card.
  2. Remove the memory card from a camera while a picture is being saved to the card.
  3. Remove the card from a memory card reader during picture transfer.
  4. Rely on weak batteries during picture transfer.
NOTE: Always verify that your batteries are fully charged before transferring pictures.
  5. Remove the card from the card reader while folders and files from the card are open on a computer.
  6. Open, delete, rename, or move files on the card while its contents are open on a computer.
  7. Use a memory card that has not been formatted in the camera.
  8. Insert a second memory card into a card reader before closing and removing the first card.
  9. Take pictures when camera batteries are nearly empty.
  10. Continue shooting and deleting pictures when the card is full.
