If you are using a MACBOOK Pro and the scan output is completely black, try the following (for all other computers see the steps below):

  • Scan with a lower dpi (less than 600 dpi).
  • Scan with the KODAK PERFECT TOUCH Technology check box cleared.
  • Scan with a smaller portion of your original if you don't want to scan at a lower dpi.

If the error continues, follow the next set of steps.

For all other comptuers, try the following:

  • Compare your scan output to your original; make sure your original document or photo is free of dirt, lines or smudges that you see on the scan output.
  • Scan with a higher resolution:

    • If you scan from your computer:

      1. Open Home Center Software.
      2. Select Scan Documents and Pictures.
      3. Follow the on-screen instructions to select a higher scan resolution (up to 9600 dpi for some printer models).
      4. From the printer control panel, press Home, then select Scan > OK > Scan What. Make sure your selection matches the Home Center selection for Document or Photo.
    • If you scan from your printer control panel, try setting the Scan What to Photo to allow a higher scan resolution, which will improve the scan output quality.
  • Clean your scanner glass and underside of the lid:
CAUTION: To prevent damage, do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners or organic solvents on any part of the printer. Do not pour or spray liquid directly on the glass; the liquid might seep under the glass and damage the printer. Do not use paper-based wipes, as these may scratch the underside of the scanner lid.
    1. Disconnect the printer power cord from the printer and wall outlet.
    2. Raise the scanner lid.
    3. If a protective cover sheet is on the scanner glass, remove and discard it.
    4. Wipe the scanner glass with a soft cloth, slightly moistened with a nonabrasive glass cleaner.
    5. Dry the scanner glass with a clean, lint-free cloth.
    6. Gently clean the underside of the scanner lid with a soft cloth, slightly moistened with a mild soap and warm water.
    7. Dry the underside of the lid with a clean, lint-free cloth.
    8. Connect the power cord.
    9. Try to scan again.

If your scan output is still unsatisfactory, refer to the "Scanning" section of your printer Extended User Guide for more information.
