You may experience this problem when using Image Capture to scan from your printer using MAC OS 10.6.
To resolve:
- Start the Image Capture application.
 - Depending on your printer connection, follow the appropriate steps: 
- USB cable - Select Devices, then select your printer.
 - Wi-Fi/Ethernet - Select Shared, then select your printer.
 
 - Click Show Details.
 - Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the scan.
