There may be several reasons why there is no dial tone. To resolve:


Check to be sure the Fax Speaker is set to On:

  1. Press Home.
  2. Select Fax Settings, then press OK.
  3. Scroll to Fax Speaker, check that it is set to On, if not:
    • Use the left/right navigation buttons to set it to On, then press OK.


Check that your all-in-one printer is set up for faxing correctly for the type of telephone service. Refer to .


Try to fax again:

  1. Press FAX button.
  2. Enter the telephone number.
  3. Press OK.

If you do not hear a dial tone, check the phone line:

  1. Disconnect the fax telephone cable from the printer. Keep the other end of the fax cable connected to your wall outlet, DSL filter, or cable phone connection.
  2. Connect the fax telephone cable to a known working telephone.
  3. Pick up the telephone receiver to check for a dial tone.
  4. If there is no dial tone, contact your phone service provider for support.
  5. If you hear a dial tone, disconnect the fax telephone cable from your telephone.
  6. Connect the fax telephone cable your printer and try to fax again.
