If this error occurs while faxing:

  • Replace the ink cartridge before faxing again only if you have an ESP 9 or EASYSHARE 5500 All-in-One Printer.
  • For all other printer models with faxing capability, press Cancel, then continue faxing. At your earliest convenience, replace the ink cartridge.

If this error occurs while scanning:

  • Replace the ink cartridge before scanning again only if you have an EASYSHARE 5100, 5300, or 5500, or an ESP 3, 5, 7, or 9 All-in-One Printer.
  • For all other printer models, press Cancel, then continue scanning. At your earliest convenience, replace the ink cartridge.

Your all-in-one printer is designed to stop printing before quality is compromised. Make sure you always use KODAK Ink Cartridges. Kodak is not responsible for the compatibility or performance of non-Kodak brand ink cartridges or refilled ink cartridges.

To resolve the error, replace the black ink cartridge with a new cartridge:

  1. Turn on your printer.
  2. Open the access door. For printers with LCDs, follow the instructions on the LCD screen.

    NOTE: For ESP 3250 and ESP 5250 all-in-one printers, if the ink cartridges don't move to the center when you follow the instructions on the LCD screen, see .
  3. When the printhead stops moving, pinch the latch on the black ink cartridge and lift it out of the printhead.
  4. Remove the new black ink cartridge from its bag.
  5. Remove the protective cap from the black ink cartridge.

    CAUTION: Insert the ink cartridge immediately to prevent the printhead from drying out.
  6. Insert the black ink cartridge into the printhead.
  7. Press down on the tab until you hear a click.
  8. Close the access door. For printers with LCDs, follow the instructions on the LCD screen.

If the error continues, upgrade the firmware for your printer:

  1. Press the Cancel button on your printer to clear the error message.
