To resolve the error "Printer not responding" with a 5000-series all-in-one printer:

  1. Make sure:
    • the printer is connected directly to the computer (not to a USB hub) with a USB 2.0 cable.
    • the printer has power and is turned on.

      • A light appears on the AC adapter (power cord).
      • The On/Off light is green and is not blinking.
      • If the On/Off light is blinking or is a color other than green, it indicates a printer error and the USB communication may not work.
    • no error lights are on and no messages appear on the printer.
    • no memory cards, card readers, flash drives, or BLUETOOTH Devices are connected to the printer.

  2. Reset the printer:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
    • Wait five seconds.
    • Connect the power cord to the printer.
    • Turn on the printer.

  3. Make a print in stand-alone mode, by using only the printer, to make sure that the printer is working properly.

  4. Make a print from your computer (Home Center Software).
If the error continues, continue with the next step.

  5. Restart the spooler service:
    • Click Start > Run.
    • Type net stop spooler, then click OK.
    • Click Start > Run.
    • Type net start spooler, then click OK.

  6. Disconnect the USB cable from the back of the computer, and leave it plugged into the back of the printer.

  7. Plug the disconnected end of the USB cable into the USB port on the front of the printer.
NOTE: Make sure you hear a beeping sound when you plug in the USB cable. If you do not hear the beeping sound, the cable or the printer is defective. Test the USB cable with another USB device. Most likely the cable is the problem.

  8. Verify that a KODAK Printer Driver is installed:
    • Select Start > Printers and Faxes.

      • If a KODAK 5XXX AiO Printer does not appear in the window, the printer driver for your printer is not installed. (A printer driver will be installed when you restart the computer).
      • If one KODAK 5XXX AiO Printer appears, the printer driver is installed.
      • If multiple KODAK 5XXX AiO Printers appear, right-click and delete each AiO printer driver. (A printer driver will be installed when you restart the computer).

  9. Close the Printers and Faxes window.

  10. Restart the computer.

  11. Make a print from the computer (Home Center Software).
If the error continues, continue with the next step.

  12. Disconnect all USB devices from the computer, except the KODAK All-in-One Printer.

  13. Open the Device Manager:
    • Right-click My Computer, then select Properties.
    • Select the Hardware tab, then click Device Manager.
    • Click the plus sign (+) to the left of Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

      • Right-click USB Composite Device. Click Uninstall.
      • Right-click USB Printing Support. Click Uninstall.
    • Click the plus sign (+) to the left of Imaging Devices, and uninstall the EasyShare AiO and the KODAK 5XXX AiO.
NOTE: Some of these devices may not appear on your computer.

  14. Select Start > Printers and Faxes.

  15. Right-click the KODAK 5XXX AiO printer, then select Delete.
NOTE: If multiple Kodak printers are listed, delete them all.

  16. Restart your computer.

  17. Turn off your all-in-one printer, then turn it on again.

  18. Make a print.
