You may be on a wireless channel that has a lot of traffic, or you are not on one of the 802.11 Wi-Fi standard and recommended wireless channels (1,6, and 11 for best channel frequency spread). There is only enough wireless bandwidth for three clean, distinct channels. Switching the channel of your wireless router can help improve your wireless performance when traffic in the area is high.
Your router and/or computer signal strength may be weak. To improve the signal strength, move your printer closer to the router. This should increase the speed of printing and scanning.
Slow wireless printer performance can also be caused by interference from other wireless devices. If you have 2.4 G Hz versions of the following items, turn them off to improve the performance of your printer:
- baby monitors
- wireless routers
- wireless game controllers
- wireless voice headsets and speakers
- video and audio streaming
- microwave ovens
- cordless phones
Metal racks and walls in line of sight between your router and printer can also create interference and poor performance with wireless frequencies. The 2.4 G Hz phones will cause the most interference for 802.11 Wi-Fi networks. If these phones are on and in the same room as your router, you will experience performance issues.
When your printer is connected, make sure it is not too far away from the wireless router.
- Your all-in-one printer's 802.11g Wi-Fi radio supports a range of up to 120 feet.
- For optimum performance, keep your all-in-one printer 15 to 30 feet from your wireless router.
