By default, WINDOWS OS is configured to disable the USB ports after a period of inactivity in order to save power.

To disable the power-save feature of the USB root hub to which the printer is connected:
  1. Make sure that the all-in-one printer is connected to the computer and is turned on.
  2. Open the Device Manager.
    • Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
    • Select the Hardware tab.
    • Click Device Manager.
  3. Click the plus sign (+) to the left of Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  4. For each USB Root Hub:
    • Right-click the USB Root Hub, and select Properties.
    • Click the Power tab.
  5. If the USB Composite Device is listed:
    • Click the Power Management tab.
    • Clear the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" check box.
    • Click OK.
  6. If the USB Composite Device is not listed, click Cancel.
  7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for all USB Root Hubs listed under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
  8. Close the Device Manager.
