Your camera light meter uses multi-spot exposure metering, which is sensitive to subtle differences in scene composition. To determine the overall shutter speed for a scene, the light meter takes readings from three zones within the frame. Generally, if two of the three zones are darker areas, the camera determines an exposure that causes the background to be overexposed.

Generally, if two of the three zones are brightly lit and one is in shadow, the camera determines an exposure where the background is properly exposed.

NOTE: To achieve the perfect picture, you may need to crop the image to eliminate any unwanted objects that you used to get the correct exposure.
