While in Review Mode, the image that is first displayed on the LCD is a preview of the actual image.
  • The preview has low resolution, designed for the size of the LCD display.
  • When you zoom to 2X review magnification, the camera zooms in on the preview; therefore the image continues to look somewhat soft.
  • When you zoom the LCD to 3X or higher, the camera displays the full resolution image, resized to fit on the LCD.
  • Then when you zoom back to 2X, rather than reverting back to the preview version, the image remains in the full resolution view, retaining a sharper quality than the initial 2X review magnification.
Zooming back and forth has no effect on the quality of the original picture. You are only reviewing the picture as it is displayed on the LCD. The softness or sharpness is more noticeable with cameras that have a higher resolution than with cameras with a lower resolution, such as 5 MP or less.
