Unrecognized File Format means that a picture, video, or memory card is corrupted.

What causes a file to become unrecognized?

  • A picture/video on a card was taken by another camera.
  • A picture/video was edited on a computer, then copied to the card.
  • A single picture/video or the entire card became corrupted.

To resolve the issue

  1. Transfer all pictures/videos to your computer, where they have a better chance of being recognized.
Use the USB cable that came with your camera. If you have a card reader, use it to transfer pictures/videos.
    Having trouble ?
  2. After your successfully transfer your pictures/videos to the computer, use the camera to format the card or camera internal memory.
IMPORTANT: Formatting erases all pictures, videos, and other files from the card or camera internal memory.
    1. Make sure you're in picture-taking mode, not Review mode.
    2. Press the camera Menu button.
    3. Choose Format, then press the OK button. (If you don't see Format, look within the Setup option or Setup tab.)
    4. Choose Memory Card or Internal Memory, then press the OK button.

Tips for preventing a file from being corrupted

  • Turn off the camera before inserting  or removing a card.
  • Remove a card from the camera, card reader, or card slot only after it's finished saving files. Otherwise, the picture, video, or card can become corrupted. (Follow your operating system instructions for safely removing memory devices from your computer.)
  • Keep rechargeable batteries charged. Occasionally, if the battery power is low and many camera operations are requested, the card or contents may become corrupted. (KODAK Cameras are designed to power down "gracefully" in the event of battery failure, so power failure corruption is rare.)
